Changing Lives. One family at a Time
Casa Nueva Vida is a family homeless shelter with a number of educational and supportive services that help to break the chain of poverty in the community.
Manuel R. Duran founded Casa Nueva Vida in the basement of a local church. Casa was the response to the particular need for the growing number of Hispanic families. The shelter began operating in 1987 with enough space for four families. In 1989, Casa Nueva Vida officially became an independent non-profit agency and started running seven days a week, 24 hours a day. Demand and need far exceeded the capacity of the shelter, and in September of 1993, the shelter moved into a beautiful three-story, six-family home in Boston's Jamaica Plain neighborhood.
“Education is the key to break the chain of poverty in our communities.”
— Manuel R. Duran, President & CEO
